The wind has been blowing so forcefully today, I can't even open the windows. I was too busy cleaning this morning to check my flowers and garden. When I did, I noticed the tomatoes were wilted and bent over. I quickly helped reinforce them. I then checked out my beautiful, once-a-year bloom, lilies. They grow tall and the wind was ripping some of them out of the ground. I, again, quickly staked them down battling the wind at my back.
I was angry. I thought, "First the cold, then the rain, and now the wind...I can't grow anything to enjoy." Pure selfish... I know.
It does remind me of how fragile and brief life can be. We can't hold tightly to things that do not last. We need to be holding tightly to eternal things... the things of God.
