The words "fear not" appear in the Bible 365 times. That is one day per year. There are many things in this world that cause us to fear. Some times we can easily give our worries and fears to God and he will give us perfect peace, but other times we hang on to our fears. Fears take over our body, and we lose sight of God's truth and peace.
This is what happened to my 8 yr. old son. He is petrified of shots. We took him to receive a flu vaccine yesterday and he immediately started to cry and fight it. Upon entering the free clinic, at a local school, fear grasped a hold of his heart and mind.
Sister took the shot first, without a problem. By the time she was done, Darin was out of the room, heading out of the school. One nurse, overseeing the room, caught on to our dilemma. She offered to follow us and give Darin the shot wherever.
Tension was rising. We couldn't do anything to calm him down. We could not drag him into the room,nor reason with him. But, we knew we would not leave without the shot.
After driving around the school a few times and talking some more, I went to get the friendly nurse. I bypassed the long line and headed into the room. The nurse saw me and immediately rememered the situation. She willingly came to the car. I said that my son might bolt. But, when we got there his arm was ready for the shot. It was done in a matter of seconds, without a tear.
A thirty minute trial filled with fear and frustration, left us all exhausted. So much wasted energy. God desires us to come to him with all of our needs and he will help us and it will glorify him.
Apologies were made as we headed home.
I praise God for the nurse that he sent to us for such a time... God does not want us to fear, but to trust in him.
I pray that this will sink deep into the heart and mind of my growing son. FEAR NOT!
