One of my favorite Christmas songs in the last few years is "Christmas with a Capital C", by the group Go Fish. It speaks about how every one is saying "Happy Holidays", and not "Merry Christmas". One of the lines says: "It's called Christmas. What more can we say? It's about the birth of Christ and they can't take that away." We listened to this song one morning before school. Later in the week, Darin would have a test, and not meaning in spelling or reading...
His teacher was asking the class what the "Holidays' mean to them. Several students responded that it is about Jesus' birthday! Darin agreed with them. His teacher did not quietly nod and go on. She stopped and told the class that talking about Jesus and his birthday should be done at home. And, that they didn't want to offend any one who didn't believe in true meaning of Christmas.
The comedian in the Go Fish song speaks about the fact that after 2000 years, Jesus Christ is still intimidating people...
After the group time, Darin goes back to his seat and continues to talk about the true meaning of Christmas with his table mates.
It is on his heart and he tells us at supper later. At first, I was frustrated and a bit angry. I wanted to send a note off to the teacher. Darin is speaking truth!!
The next day, Darin told me that he wrote about Jesus in his Christmas poem.
After several days of thinking, praying and talking with some friends.. I realize how strong Darin is in his faith. He is not ashamed. And, he continues to write about the true meaning of Christmas. He will face many more testings of his faith. It also speaks volumes to the kids that do not believe in Jesus. He stood up for his faith, and heard others that believe in the same thing he does.
I am also thankful for my Moms in Touch prayer group that I lead each week to pray for our children and school. It made me realize the pressures that our children face every day. And, they need our prayers more than anything!
God used this for his glory! Christmas, no matter what society tells us, is about the birth of Christ and they can't take that away! No one can!
If you haven't heard the song.. here is a link to a video...
