Post Election Thoughts

Here are some verses that God placed on my heart yesterday and today.... "God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne." Psalm 47:8 And from Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:6 "O LORD, God of our fathers, are you not the God who is in heaven? You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations. Power and might are in your hand, and no one can withstand you." Jehoshaphat is acknowledging that only God could save the nation. He praised God. He sought after God and he acknowledged God's sovereignty over the current situation. Today I woke up in disbelief over America's choice to re-elect President Obama. I was a little angry, confused and frustrated. But I opened up the Bible and God showed me time and again that He reigns supremely and HE holds all power and might. Instead of turning on the TV and being filled with all the election follow-up, I turned on some praise music and gave God the glory. We can be doing something. It is not hopeless. We can follow Jehoshaphat's example for our nation today. Then, I was reading in Judges, as I am slowly working my way through the Old Testament. The Israelites, 300 years after entering the promised land, were still worshipping idols and practicing evil. Whenever we get away from God and his Word, evil can follow. This can slowly affect the furture generations. We need to continually pray for our nation to come back to God and for God to reign in each and every person. Yet, another thing we can do. It is not hopeless. Finally, In Psalm 22:30b-31. God kept showering me with his wisdom and truth. "Future generations will be told about the Lord. They will proclaim his righteousness to a people yet unborn--for he has done it." As parents, we are called to teach our children about Jesus and his gospel message, so they can teach their children and so on. We don't want to break that chain for future generations. Our children are God's future leaders. So, again, a big responsibility. But, praise God, we are not alone. Our God is our strong and mighty, firm foundation. Still, another way godly families are making a difference in this nation! The song by Steve Green also came to mind. We Trust In The Name Of The LORD Some trust in chariots We trust in the name of the Lord our God Some trust in horses We trust in the name of the Lord our God Chorus: We trust in the name of the Lord our God We trust in the name of the Lord our God His love never fails His name will always prevail We trust in the name of the Lord our God Some trust in the works they do We trust in the name of the Lord our God 'Cause by His grace all the work is through We trust in the name of the Lord our God Chorus Oh glory to the name The name of our salvation Oh glory to the name above all names The name of the Lord our God Some trust in the wealth of things We trust in the name of the Lord our God The name worth more than anything We trust in the name of the Lord our God Chorus We trust in the name of the Lord our God We trust in the name of the Lord our God His love never fails His name will always prevail We trust in the name of the Lord our We trust in the name of the Lord our We trust in the name of the Lord our God
