Are You READY?
Since my dad passed from this earthly life to Heaven, right in front of my eyes last July, God has been increasingly sending reminders to be ready. Be ready for what? In the book of 1st Peter,”Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”(5:8) Or, “Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come.” Mark 13:33 WE need to be alert of areas of sin in our lives. We need to put on the armor of God, against the attacks of the evil one. We need to be glorifying God in all that we say and do. We need to be focused on God at all times, for we do not know when we will be face to face with him. We need to be in God’s word, meditating and memorizing. “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.” 2 Timothy 4:2 We need to be ready to share the gospel with those that are not saved.
Jeff and I had to be ready when the rain fell for hours and our backyard filled with water. We had to make sure our sump pump hose was properly carrying the water outside of our house. When it disconnected, we hurriedly came up with a new plan. A couple weeks ago, Jeff and I were driving in the car and had to slam on the brakes as a man kept walking across a busy road. Jeff nearly ran over a small dog on his bike the same day…. Be alert and ready! When visiting my mom, she inhaled a piece of meat that got lodged and Jeff had to perform the Heimlich maneuver. It was scary, I panicked, but Jeff was ready. She was fine. Then later that day, we hit a deer in my dad’s truck after fishing. I didn’t know what to think! My mom said they are reminders, from God, to be READY.
This life is short. “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.” 1 Corinthians 16:13
