In church on Sunday, our pastor was talking about Paul's thorn in his flesh, his weakness. We don't know exactly what his physical affliction was. But, God did not remove it from him, even though Paul asked him to 3 times. He simply told Paul, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." 2 Corinthians 12:8.
We need to rely on God for everything, not on our own strength.
When I keep getting attacked in a certain area of my life, I need to know God's power is working through me and making me stronger in my faith. My afflictions cause me to look up and rely on God's greatness.
